Purpose of Establishment

Chungbuk National University’s Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence was established to respond to rapid development of AI technology spotlighted as the core technology for 4th industrial revolution and to perfume information exchange and research cooperation. The research institute integrates research capacities of related AI researchers in Chungbuk National University to create research synergy effect, serve as technical cooperator and supporter in Chungcheong regions, and performs academic researches to research on AI convergence studies and social issues.

• 2017. 03. 31 Established Chungbuk National University, Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence

• 2017. 04. 06 Appointed professor Jaesung Lee as the first director of Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence

• 2017. 11. 03 Jointly held symposium on “Role of Industry, University, and Institute in 4th Industrial Revolution Era”

• 2018. 11. 28 Held seminar on “Meeting of Chungbuk Science Technology Leaders”

• 2019. 09. 01 Appointed professor Younghun Seo as the second director of Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence

• 2021. 09. 01 Appointed professor Sung-Soo Kim as the third director of Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence

• 2023. 09. 01 Appointed professor HyungWon Kim as the fourth director of Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence

Organization

Our research institute has 4 research departments (Academic Research Department, Industry-University Cooperation Department, Management Consulting Department, Human Resource Cultivation Department). Professors specialized the field are serving as researchers in each department for research activities and academic activities. Director is in charge of research institute’s general affairs

Future Plan

Researches

- Researching on AI fields in Chungcheong regions and developing into the center of Industry-University research
- Organizing AI-related human resources and industrial materials in Chungcheong regions to develop into the central institute for research and Industry-University exchange

Finance

- Participating in Chungbuk cooperation project and in-school research projects to accumulate research capacity
- Performing research projects supported by external institutes such as National Research Foundation of Korea
- Arranging measures for financial independence by developing own program and carrying out projects

Human Resource

- Inducing participation from new researches (academic research after finishing doctorate degree) through projects supported by external institutes such as National Research Foundation of Korea
- Providing environment where various specialized personnel such as adjunct researcher, full-time researcher, invited researcher, and academic research professor can boost researches through the research institute
- Forming research base for AI researchers in Chungcheong and other regions
